CCS Needs YOUR Help!

 

   At Crossroads Community Services (CCS) our food, financial, educational, and clothing assistance programs all work together to help people who have a home keep their home.  We strive to nourish the body and minds of low-income persons, especially children.  In 2008, we are on track to provide groceries so that over 12,000 unduplicated children and adults can enjoy 2,400,000 nutritionally balanced meals!

 

   Food assistance is not only economically important to our clients; it becomes a gateway to other services such as Adolescent Skills Acquisition Program (ASAP) and our Strategically Optimized Career Scholarships (SOCS) Program.  CCS developed ASAP and SOCS to help children and young adults break the cycle of inter-generational poverty.  (See the CCS Program Narrative [link below] for more information on these programs.)

 

   But, we need your help.  Even though we pay only a "shared maintenance fee" of $0.14 per pound for groceries received from the North Texas Food Bank, to meet our goal of 2.4 million nutritionally and calorically balanced meals we must spend about $28,000/month!  Unfortunately, individual monetary donations to CCS are down.

 

   You can help us in five ways:

• Make a contribution to the NEW CCS Virtual Food Drive!              Be sure and select North Texas Food Bank to receive your donation!

• Make a significant donation to CCS (and ask your employer about a matched giving program).

• Read the CCS Program Narrative and our            Long-Term Food Distribution Vision to fully understand the scope, strategy, and efficiency of this ministry and then share our story with friends who have the means make significant monetary contributions.

• 

Use GoodSearch.com for your internet searches, choosing First United Methodist Church - Dallas as your "charity".

• Inform us of foundations or funding sources, especially where you know decision makers in the organization.

   The current economic conditions are especially hard on low-income families.  Together, we can reach our goal of 2,400,000 meals for our neighbors-in-need.

Giving Thanks Concert

Resounding Harmony is a new community chorus formed and directed by Dr. Tim Seelig, Artistic Director Emeritus of Dallas' Turtle Creek Chorale.  The chorus is planning a debut concert to benefit The North Texas Food Bank and CCS!

"The North Texas Food Bank and Crossroads Community Services are excited to be the beneficiaries. We have set initial goals of $5,000 and 5,000 pounds of food, but I expect that number to go up soon. It looks as if the food drive will begin on November 15 and culminate with OUR concert on November 24 all because you are willing to “sing for someone else’s supper.” We have actually had talks about a three-year commitment to make them the beneficiary each of the next three fall concerts so we can really build on this and become long-term, not just one-time, partners in the fight against hunger."   -- from a message from Tim Seelig, found on the Resounding Harmony website
