CCS Goals & Budget Management Program

We want you to participate in an important part in our outreach ministry—helping lower income families help themselves. For over 20 years we have done an excellent job of feeding and clothing the homeless and lower income families as well as giving financial aid to those persons who without our help, would be evicted or lose their utility service. The material covered in our Goals & Budget Management Workshop is new and welcome information for most of our clients. The Setting and Managing Goals Outline gives an idea of the material covered. These programs are designed to equip people to effectively manage their lives.

Workshops are held every Thursday and start promptly at 10 a.m.

These classes are open to anyone. They are required for those people who receive rent or utility assistance from CCS. To ensure the continued success of this program we need lay leaders and volunteers with the following skills:

  • Setting and managing goals

  • Money management for persons with lower incomes

  • Setting a low income budget

  • Time management skills and self-management skills

  • Planning a weekly home menu

We want to incorporate volunteers into the program with the following skills:

  •  Job placement experience

  •  Assessing people's job skills and aptitudes

  •  Effective resume writing

  •  General business writing skills (ex. basic business letter composition)

  •  How to resolve conflicts in the workplace and home

  •  How to manage stress, especially for single parents

  •  Effective job search strategies

  •  Strategies to secure appropriate day-care

  •  General nutrition and personal hygiene for women, children and men

  •  Help people understand and negotiate transitional benefits

  •  Work with adults in obtaining basic math and reading skills

  •  Cheerleaders—our clients need encouragement and advocates in order to successfully transition from dependence on welfare to full employment

If you have the above mentioned skills and the desire as well as the persistence to transform lives please contact Burton Shepherd at bshepherd@fumcdallas.org or 214-220-2727, ext. 205.
